Evidence Of Sulfur Rings In Dark Interstellar Clouds
For the first time, a team of scientists from HFML-FELIX at Radboud University has unveiled the cosmic fingerprints of sulfur rings. These results, published in Nature Communications, may shed new […]
Curiosity Astrobiology Rover Discovers Pure Sulfur Crystals On Mars
Among several recent findings, the Mars Curiosity rover has found rocks made of pure sulfur — a first on the Red Planet.
Volcano World Update: Lava Lakes On Io
Editor’s note: Is there life on Io? To be certain, Io is a radiation-drenched lava world, yes. But life on Earth manages to thrive in some rather absurdly extreme volcanic […]
Insights on the Formation Conditions of Uranus and Neptune from their Deep Elemental Compositions
This study, placed in the context of the preparation for the Uranus Orbiter Probe mission, aims to predict the bulk volatile compositions of Uranus and Neptune. Using a protoplanetary disk […]
Investigating Sulfur Chemistry In The HD 163296 Disk
Sulfur chemistry in the formation process of low-mass stars and planets remains poorly understood. The protoplanetary disks (PPDs) are the birthplace of planets and its distinctive environment provides an intriguing […]
Formation of Alkylsulfonic Acids in Interstellar Analog Ices
For the last century, the source of sulfur in Earth’s very first organisms has remained a fundamental, unsolved enigma.
An ALCHEMI Inspection of Sulphur-bearing Species Towards the Central Molecular Zone of NGC 253
Sulphur-bearing species are detected in various environments within Galactic star-forming regions and are particularly abundant in the gas phase of outflows and shocks, and photo-dissociation regions.
Atmospheric Isotopes Reveal 4.5 Billion Years Of Volcanism On Io
Sulfur and chlorine isotopes in the atmosphere of Jupiter’s moon Io indicate that it has been volcanically active for the entire 4.57 billion-year history of the Solar System, according to […]
Sulfur And The Origin Of Life
Many artists have tried to depict what Earth might have looked like billions of years ago, before life made its appearance. Many scenes trade snow-covered mountains for lava-gushing volcanoes and […]
