Postdoctoral Position at University of Hawaii – Department of Chemistry & W.M. Keck Research Laboratory in Astrochemistry
One postdoctoral position in experimental physical chemistry and chemical physics (reaction dynamics, astrobiology, astrochemistry) is open at the Department of Chemistry, University of Hawai’i at Manoa, for the period of one year, initially, to investigate the formation of dipeptides in astrophysically relevant ices by ionizing radiation.
The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience ranging from $39,000 to $45,000. Successful applicants should have a strong background in experimental reaction dynamics, surface scattering, UHV technology, and spectroscopy including FTIR and Raman. Programming experience in Matlab, Labview, and autocad along with knowledge in the generation of tunable UVVUV radiation is desirable.
The prime directive of our research is to investigate the formation of molecules in extreme environments (low temperature interstellar and Solar System ices). Solid communication skills in English (written, oral) and a strong publication record in internationally circulated, peer-reviewed journals are mandatory. Only self-motivated and energetic candidates are encouraged to apply; please send a letter of interest, three letters of recommendation, CV, and publication list to Dr. Brant Jones, Department of Chemistry & W.M. Keck Research laboratory in Astrochemistry, University of Hawai’i at Manoa, Honolulu, HI 96822-2275, USA. Only complete, electronic applications in pdf format will be considered (email@example.com). The review of applications will start April 8, 2013, and will continue until the position is filled.
