STScI James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Summer School II

The STScI James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Summer School II — from August 2 to 13, 2027 — will focus on exoplanet transits, eclipses, and phase curves with JWST. Early career scientists, new JWST researchers, and researchers new to the field are encouraged to apply.
The school will last two weeks: the first week will feature engaging lectures on the science of exoplanets and their atmospheres; the second week will focus on observational and analytical techniques, where participants will learn how to create JWST programs, analyze time-series observations of transiting exoplanets, and extract the full scientific potential of JWST data.
JWST has revolutionized exoplanet science by using advanced infrared instruments to study the atmospheres, temperatures, and chemistry of planets outside our solar system. Exoplanet science accounts for approximately 25% of JWST science observations, making it one of the largest drivers of the observatory’s scientific program.
The exoplanet community has demonstrated the precision of JWST time-series observations across a wide range of planetary environments and established new approaches for observing, reducing, and interpreting complex datasets.
The JWST Summer School II will prepare participants for both the current state and future direction of exoplanet science as the field moves toward increasingly challenging observations.
Applications will open in February-March 2027.
