Edoardo Gianni is an Investigator Scientist at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK. He is interested in building minimal chemical systems that can replicate themselves and evolve in order to understand how this may have occurred spontaneously on the early earth. To do so, he uses directed evolution to reveal new function in large libraries of biomolecules, with a focus on RNA as the driver of self-replication and carrier of heritable information. Edoardo obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge and a BSc from University College London.
