Dale Andersen’s Astrobiology Antarctic Status Report: 23 November 2022: ROV Dive Hole Completed
Lake Untersee

Keith

I ran the hole melter tjhrough the night and today and hope to have the ROV dive hole completed later this evening. I will take a closer look at the hole we made tomorrow morning, and if is large enough we will deploy the DeepTrekker ROV (Revolution NAV) (image below) as soon as it is ready to go.

Andre and Miles spent most of the day working in the south basin of Untersee puling additional water samples from the water column between 80-100 m which is anoxic and methane rich. Denis and Adam continued working with the ground penetrating radar, obtaining addiitional tracks starting from the ice-cover of Lake Untersee, North onto the Anuchin Glacier which dams the lake.

So all in all another productive day here at Lake Untersee!

Cheers
Dale
