SUMMARY:James Webb Space Telescope JWEBBINAR #53: The Optical Constants Data Base And JWST
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) webinar (JWebbinar) dedicated to the Optical Constants database (OCdb) and its use in PICASO and VIRGA models to analyze and interpret JWST observations of brown dwarfs and exoplanets. This JWebbinar will be presented by Ella Sciamma-O’Brien\, Lora Jovanovic\, Sarah Moran\, and James Mang. \nThe JWebbinar is scheduled for Wednesday November 4\, 8-10 a.m. (PST) and is organized by the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI). \nRegister by October 29 at: https://tinyurl.com/v497rx25 \nThe Optical Constants database (https://ocdb.smce.nasa.gov)\, developed at NASA Ames\, centralizes published optical constants of materials relevant to (exo)planetary and astrophysical environments\, making them more accessible to the community. \nThis JWebbinar will provide: \n1) a demo of the OCdb website: how to search the database content\, utilize its online tools for simple analyses\, and download data; \n2) how to use OCdb data in the PICASO (https://lnkd.in/grvYG4Gc) and VIRGA (https://lnkd.in/geWHaCnn) models to analyze and interpret JWST observations of brown dwarfs and exoplanets. \nIn this hand-on session\, there will be time for participants to ask questions\, discuss OCdb and exoplanet/brown dwarf-related topics\, and provide input on next steps for OCdb.

SUMMARY:STScI James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Summer School II
DESCRIPTION:The STScI James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Summer School II — from August 2 to 13\, 2027 — will focus on exoplanet transits\, eclipses\, and phase curves with JWST. Early career scientists\, new JWST researchers\, and researchers new to the field are encouraged to apply. \nThe school will last two weeks: the first week will feature engaging lectures on the science of exoplanets and their atmospheres; the second week will focus on observational and analytical techniques\, where participants will learn how to create JWST programs\, analyze time-series observations of transiting exoplanets\, and extract the full scientific potential of JWST data. \nJWST has revolutionized exoplanet science by using advanced infrared instruments to study the atmospheres\, temperatures\, and chemistry of planets outside our solar system. Exoplanet science accounts for approximately 25% of JWST science observations\, making it one of the largest drivers of the observatory’s scientific program. \nThe exoplanet community has demonstrated the precision of JWST time-series observations across a wide range of planetary environments and established new approaches for observing\, reducing\, and interpreting complex datasets. \nThe JWST Summer School II will prepare participants for both the current state and future direction of exoplanet science as the field moves toward increasingly challenging observations. \nApplications will open in February-March 2027.
