SUMMARY:2026 LIFE NASA RCN Seminar: Sara Imari Walker and L. Felipe Benites
DESCRIPTION:Zoom: Join the 2026 LIFE NASA RCN Seminar Series \nTitle: Quantitative Prebiotic Chemistry and Defining the Abiotic Baseline Reveals why RNA may be unique to Earth \nDr. Sara Imari Walker is an astrobiologist and theoretical physicist whose research focuses on new approaches to the origins of life\, artificial life\, and the detection of alien life on other worlds. She is the author of Life as No One Knows It: The Physics of Life’s Emergence (Riverhead\, 2024)\, which argues for a radical new thinking around what constitutes life. Walker is Deputy Director of the Beyond Center for Fundamental Concepts in Science\, Professor at the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University (ASU) and External Faculty at the Santa Fe Institute. \nTitle: Deep-time evolution of proteome elemental composition in viruses and cells \nDr. L. Felipe Benites is a postdoctoral researcher at Arizona State University who investigates the fundamental principles that constrain biological diversity across cellular and viral life. His work sits at the intersection of astrobiology\, evolution\, and genomics\, where he explores how life might differ under alternative chemical\, evolutionary and planetary conditions.

SUMMARY:Food Production and Space Research in Antarctica
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time Aug 27\, 2026 11:00 AM in\nEastern Time (US and Canada)\nREGISTRATION \nWe’re kicking off the second half of 2026 with Episode #08 of SpaceAg Conversations\, exploring a fascinating question: What can one of Earth’s harshest environments teach us about resilient agriculture\, and how can it help prepare us for future space missions? \nOperating year-round in one of the planet’s most isolated and extreme environments\, Antarctic research stations face many of the same challenges expected in future lunar and Martian habitats: limited resources\, complex logistics\, and the need to produce fresh food far from traditional supply chains. \nThis webinar explores how research and technologies developed for these remote stations are advancing terrestrial agricultural systems while helping humanity pave the way for sustainable food production beyond Earth. \nJoin us to explore the intersection of polar science\, sustainable agriculture\, and space exploration. The discussion will feature pioneering Antarctic initiatives\, from the world’s first zero-emission Princess Elisabeth Antarctica research station and the development of the Andromeda Earth Observatory to the EDEN ISS container-based greenhouse\, which has served as a testbed for future space agriculture systems. \nEnvironments like Antarctica provide a unique real-world analogue for future space habitats\, where innovations in plant science\, controlled environment food production\, resource efficiency\, and bioregenerative life-support systems are developed\, tested\, and refined. Discover how lessons learned in such extreme\, remote locations are shaping the future of human spaceflight while strengthening agricultural resilience here on our planet. \nThe session will include expert presentations followed by a Q&A session\, giving you the opportunity to engage with the speakers and ask your questions. Register now to discover how Antarctica’s research is shaping food production on Earth and in space.

SUMMARY:AbGradE: Astrobiology Icy Moons Missions
DESCRIPTION:AbGradE is back to action and will organise its signature event on August 31st\, 2026 the day before the 26th European Astrobiology Network Association (EANA) conference on September 1-4. Both events will take place in person at the Space Exploration Institute in Neuchâtel\, Switzerland. \nThe topic is “Astrobiology Icy Moons Missions“\, where participants will have an opportunity to design a mission/experimental concept relevant to the icy moons of our Solar System. These ideas will then be developed in writing during the second half of the workshop\, which focuses on strengthening academic writing skills. \nWith the exploration of the Solar System’s icy moons entering an exciting new chapter\, there has never been a better time to get involved. Join us to learn about the opportunities ahead\, engage with experts in the field\, and connect with fellow students and early-career researchers. Before EANA even begins\, let AbGradE introduce you to the community that will accompany you on your scientific journey.
