Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut and Expedition 74 Flight Engineer Kimiya Yui conducts a microbiology research experiment inside the Kibo laboratory module’s Life Science Glovebox.

Yui was inoculating bacterial samples to study the use of ultraviolet light to disinfect spacecraft surfaces and protect crew health and hardware from biofilms—clusters of microbes that adhere to surfaces and thrive in moist environments.
