Explore Space Biology Data and Tools with GL4U On-Demand Courses
GeneLab for Colleges and Universities (GL4U)

NASA GeneLab’s GeneLab for Colleges and Universities (GL4U) initiative is revolutionizing how students and researchers access space biology education. Now, with the launch of its On-Demand Intro and RNAseq Courses, GL4U offers flexible, self-paced learning opportunities designed to empower the next generation of scientists.

The Introductory Course provides an overview of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate, Space Biology, Open Science, Open Science Data Repository (OSDR), and GeneLab, as well as hands-on training in basic coding used in bioinformatic analyses, serving as the perfect starting point for those new to space biology and bioinformatics. This foundational course equips participants with the knowledge to navigate the OSDR open-access data repository and understand its critical role in advancing space exploration and biological research.

Building on this foundation, the RNAseq Course dives into the principles and applications of RNA sequencing (RNAseq), a powerful technique for studying gene expression. Participants will learn how to process, analyze, and interpret RNAseq data using NASA GeneLab’s standardized pipelines, gaining practical skills in handling omics data relevant to both Earth and space environments. This course is ideal for those looking to develop their expertise in bioinformatics and apply these tools to cutting-edge space biology research.

Both courses are tailored to meet the needs of students, educators, and researchers alike, offering a unique opportunity to explore space biology at the intersection of innovation and accessibility. By leveraging GL4U’s on-demand format, participants can learn at their own pace, making these courses a valuable resource for academic and professional development.
