Second Workshop On Terrestrial Analogs For Planetary Exploration – LPI

The Second Workshop on Terrestrial Analogs for Planetary Exploration is scheduled for August 12–14, 2024, in Flagstaff, Arizona with virtual participation available. More information about the venue will be provided at a later date.

The workshop will bring together community members to discuss a wide range of scientific investigations of planetary analog terrains and processes, exploration strategies, and orbit-to-ground comparisons. Abstracts will be solicited for topics including various planetary processes (volcanic, impact, aeolian, subaqueous, mass-wasting, glacial, tectonic, and others) as well as geophysical, geochemical, and astrobiological investigations. Discussions of field methods, sampling techniques, exploration strategies, technology applications, and ground-truthing are also solicited, as are topics related to data standardization and dissemination. In addition, the workshop aims to address analog work that will benefit human and robotic exploration of other planetary surfaces.

The workshop is planned in coordination with the Annual Meeting of Planetary Geologic Mappers (August 14–16, 2024). Participants are encouraged to attend both meetings.

An optional field trip will be held on the morning of August 14, 2024. The field trip will be followed by a joint community discussion in the afternoon to discuss topics of interest to both the analog and planetary mapping communities. More details will be available soon.
